The National Geographic Traveller (UK) team is bringing its popular travel writing and photography sessions into your home once again from 26-28 September 2023
The Masterclasses by National Geographic Traveller (UK) are back with new expert-led online sessions that illuminate the art of written and visual storytelling. Featuring presentations and practical instruction from senior editors and industry-leading creatives, this three-day series offers amateurs and professionals alike the opportunity to refine their craft and take their work to the next level.
The six, hour-long evening sessions will run 26-28 September 2023 and are moderated by experts and contributors to National Geographic Traveller (UK). Previous attendees to The Masterclasses have given rave reviews, saying: “A great series of events, with lovely panellists. It’s great to meet more people with similar interests”; “the tips and tricks of the trade shared by the field experts were excellent”; and “this gave me so many new ways to approach getting started in creating a successful career”.
Tickets are on sale now and cost £20 per session or £90 for all six when booked together, including all booking fees, while student tickets are £10 a session or £45 for the entire course.
Included in the ticket price is a recording of the event, sent directly to attendees’ inboxes and available for up to one year after the event.
TRAVEL WRITING SESSIONS
The three one-hour classes will cover taking your travel writing to the next level, including how to pitch to publications, how to use new technologies and trends and how to structure your final piece. Expert National Geographic Traveller (UK) contributors will lead each masterclass.
Classes take place from 18.00-19.00.
Pitching & getting published
You’ve got the perfect story idea, but how to get it in print or online? The panel will discuss their top strategies for getting editors to notice your pitch and how to write that pitch in the first place.

How to be a savvy travel writer in 2023
Our panellists discuss different paths to success in today’s fast-paced and changing mediascape, from capitalising on trends and establishing an area of expertise to the best ways to utilise social media and artificial intelligence.

How to structure your storytelling
From beginnings and endings to quotes and structure, our panel will discuss how they put together their best features and how you can apply their tried-and-tested techniques to your own writing.

TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY SESSIONS
Aimed at beginner- and intermediate-level travel photographers, the three one-hour classes will feature National Geographic Traveller (UK) contributors providing expert advice and guidance on the topics of wildlife travel photography, picking the right tools for the job and the routes to publication.
Classes take place 19.15-20.15.
